Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:

  •  Maya Feldt, freshman for Lakeland High School softball: She was key to the Lady Cavaliers achieving an important, confidence-building first victory of the season on Tuesday. With her team trailing, she took over as pitcher and earned the win, throwing two strikeouts and giving up only one earned hit, while also driving in the winning run on offense in a 6-5 home win over Oscar Smith High School.
  •  Sydney Wash, senior for King’s Fork High School softball: She won a pitcher’s duel on Tuesday with senior Sydney Harless of visiting Great Bridge High School, the defending Group 5A state champions. Wash threw nine strikeouts and allowed only two hits and one walk to pave the way for her team’s 1-0 victory.
  •  Daijah Norris, sophomore for Nansemond River High School soccer: She was a crucial force on offense that helped her team go 2-0 this past week against Southeastern District opponents. She registered a hat trick on Tuesday in a 3-1 win against host Indian River High School, and on Monday, she contributed a goal to a 2-1 victory over host Great Bridge High School.
