An electrical fire destroyed a home in the 2800 block of Copeland Road late Monday night.

The fire was reported at 10:52 p.m., and the first units arrived 12 minutes later, according to a city press release. The home was already fully engulfed, with flames showing through the roof, when firefighters arrived.

A woman had evacuated prior to the arrival of firefighters. She was treated at the scene for her injuries. No firefighters were injured.

The Whaleyville Volunteer Fire Department and numerous Suffolk Fire and Rescue units responded to the scene. The home is a total loss, and the occupant is being assisted by the American Red Cross.

A portion of the roadway was closed while firefighters were on scene.
