58 reopens after five-vehicle crash

One lane of U.S. Route 58 eastbound was closed near the Godwin Boulevard interchange for part of the afternoon as crews investigated and cleaned up a five-vehicle accident.

One woman was taken to Sentara Obici Hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening, according to a city press release.

The accident happened at 12:08 p.m., according to the release. It involved a tractor-trailer, a tanker truck, a private medical transport vehicle, and two passenger vehicles.

The tanker truck was empty, and there was no patient on board the private ambulance, according to the release.

The roadway was closed immediately following the accident, and one eastbound lane remained closed for more than two hours.
