Suspicious fires investigated

The Suffolk fire marshal is investigating two recent fires at vacant homes in the city, but the incidents do not appear to be related, according to a city press release.

The first fire happened shortly after midnight on May 1 in the 100 block of North 10th Street. The two-story home was engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived.

At 1:49 a.m. on May 2, fire crews responded to a fire in the 300 block of Boat Street in the Saratoga neighborhood and found a small fire in the back portion of the vacant residence.

Both fires are believed to be suspicious in nature, according to the release.
