Nansemond-Suffolk Academy has received a $500,000 grant from the Beazley Foundation Inc. The Beazley Foundation has been a steadfast and generous supporter of NSA and ranks among the top three largest donors to NSA since 1966.

In November, NSA’s Board of Trustees announced the launch of a $6 million capital campaign. Including the $500,000 grant from the Beazley Foundation, NSA has raised more than $5.3 million toward the $6 million campaign goal.

Campaign initiatives include the creation of a science, technology, engineering and math Innovation lab; an enhanced STEM curriculum for students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade; faculty professional development; capital improvements to enhance athletics, the arts and security; and the opening of a satellite campus in Harbour View that will serve pre-kindergarten and elementary school students.

Proceeds from the Beazley Foundation, Inc.’s grant will be allocated toward this capital campaign, and more specifically to assist in opening the satellite lower school campus in Harbour View.

NSA will continue to serve students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade at the main campus on Route 460.

“This is truly a watershed moment for NSA. To partner with the Beazley Foundation, Inc. for this expansion project — a project that will help set the course for NSA for the next 50 years — is truly amazing. We are humbled by the generous support of the Beazley Foundation, Inc. and know it will help us continue to strive to make NSA second to none in the commonwealth of Virginia in educational excellence,” NSA Head of School Deborah B. Russell said.

The Honorable Richard S. Bray, President of the Beazley Foundation said, “The Beazley Foundation has long recognized the critical role of private education in providing excellent educational opportunities for our children and, accordingly, generously funded such institutions. Nansemond-Suffolk Academy has a distinguished history of graduating students well prepared for higher education, together with the opportunity of productive and successful lives. The new Harbour View Campus will extend the reach of the unique Nansemond-Suffolk Academy experience and the Foundation is proud to once again partner in the growth of an outstanding school.”

The Beazley Foundation, Inc. was established in December 1948 with funds provided by the late Fred W. Beazley, his wife, Marie C. Beazley, and son, Fred W. Beazley, Jr., all of Portsmouth.
