Suffolk police say they have received more than 20 tips from several different states in the search for missing 14-year-old Sanise Diamonique Hall, but they’re hoping one tipster in particular will call back with more information.

The teen disappeared from her home on Barclay Place early the morning of Sunday, Aug. 16.

“She hasn’t done this ever before,” Sgt. Timothy Cooper said in an interview at police headquarters Wednesday morning. “It’s unlike her to do anything like this.”

Virginia State Police has issued an endangered missing child alert, and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children also has distributed information about Sanise, Detective Matthew Faubion said.

“We’ve been getting tips, but we would like to get more tips,” Faubion said.

He said more than 20 tips have come in from various places in Virginia, as well as states such as North Carolina and Florida. Most of the tips were from people who thought they saw the teen in places like restaurants, supermarkets and hotels, Faubion said.

“Some of them, we’ve been able to say it’s not her,” Faubion said. “Others have not been definitive.”

The girl thought to be Sanise was not with anybody else when the tipsters saw her, Faubion said.

Capt. Janet Brandsasse said police are especially interested in speaking again with one tipster in particular. The male caller spoke with a police dispatcher on Monday, Aug. 17, but called from a blocked number and did not leave callback information, Brandsasse said. She declined to provide more information on what that tipster said.

The teen left a note for her family saying that if she really needed to be found, they could “look for her in Florida,” Faubion said.

There has been no activity on her social media accounts or cellphone since she went missing, Cooper said. Cell service on the phone has not been active for more than a year now, and it can only be used in places with free Wi-Fi.

Faubion said all of the teen’s friends and family, both in the area and out of state, have been contacted with no success in finding her.

Detectives are in the process of tracking down several unknown people the teen had been communicating with on social media, Cooper said. Those they have located have not panned out.

“We’re concerned she may have gone with someone who has taken her away out of state,” he said. “The key thing is to keep her face fresh on the news.”

Sanise is 5 feet, 2 inches tall and weighs 94 pounds. She has a scar above her right eye and also recently had back surgery and should have a scar from that procedure. She was last seen wearing red pajamas with pink hearts, a tank top, a black hoodie and flip-flops but could be wearing different clothes by now.

Faubion urged anybody with any information to call National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at 1-800-THE-LOST or Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP, or text the keyword SPDVATIP and the information to 274637.
