Mallie Robert Jernigan, 94, went to be with the Lord Aug. 29, 2015.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ada S. and Albert B. Jernigan, wife Virginia Jernigan, and son Robert Ray Jernigan.

Mallie was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Dr. Phyllis J. Broughton and husband Baxter of Williamston, N.C.; son Tony B. Jernigan and wife Susan of Suffolk; sister Etta Jones of Gates County, N.C.; six grandchildren, Rebecca Virginia Broughton, Robert Brooks Jernigan, James Brodie Jernigan, Natalie Jean Jernigan, Olivia J. Ramey and Elizabeth Leighann Jernigan; five great-grandchildren, Declan Mallie McCleary, Charleigh Annette Jernigan, Mallie Rae Jernigan, Tony Brice Jernigan and Andrea Lee Steele.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1 in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington St., Suffolk, by the Rev. Matt Winters. Burial will follow at Holly Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home form 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday.
