Man charged after shooting

A Suffolk man has been arrested after an altercation at a 7-Eleven store over the weekend.

Officers were dispatched to the convenience store in the 1100 block of Portsmouth Boulevard on Sunday in reference to an assault and a discharge of a firearm, according to city spokeswoman Diana Klink.

Investigators determined a verbal argument between the victim and the suspect escalated and became physical while at the automated teller machine, Klink said.

The victim was struck with a pistol, and the firearm discharged during the event, Klink said. The victim suffered injuries during the assault and was taken by ground ambulance to Sentara Obici Hospital for treatment.

The suspect was identified as Rahkeem Mowet Scott, 23. He is charged with aggravated malicious wounding, reckless handling of a firearm, willfully discharging a firearm in a public place, shoot, stab, cut or wound in commission of a felony, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

He is being held at Western Tidewater Regional Jail with no bond, Klink said.
