Suffolk is still in the throes of harvest season, but the holidays aren’t far away.

In preparation for the busy season, Tom Powell has brought back his special ChristmasInSuffolk website for the ninth year, showcasing all that’s going on during the Christmas season.

He said he started the website small. “We had a great response, so we just kept doing it,” he said.

The website invites churches and other organizations to list their free events celebrating the Christmas season.

“It’s just a way to share everything that’s going on,” Powell said. “We’re giving community organizations and churches a place to share their events for no charge.”

Powell said there are so many events happening during the holidays that a single site is needed to keep up with them all.

“There’s a lot of things that happen in the month of December other than just the city stuff,” Powell said. “I think it’s pretty historic and eclectic.”

In addition to a list of events, the website also includes Christmas charities, such as the Suffolk News-Herald’s Cheer Fund, and a list of gift ideas.

“We’re uncovering the cool things that happen during the holidays,” Powell said.

For the second year this year, the Suffolk News-Herald has partnered with Powell to present the site.

“It’s getting bigger than I thought it would be, so I think a partnership was kind of in order,” Powell said.

Organizations can submit their events through the website, and they will be posted within one business day, Powell said.

The site is live year-around so that participating organizations can get recognition, Powell said.
