James Dawson, 91, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, Nov. 15, 2015. He was born on June 15, 1924, in Southampton County, to the late Daniel and Lurena Blunt Dawson.

James received Christ at an early age and joined Rising Saint James Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he served on the usher board and was a dedicated Sunday school member. He was a maintenance worker for attorney William Crumpler.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Susie Sykes Dawson; four children; and two brothers.

James leaves behind his children, Martha L. McIntyre, Willie Sykes Dawson and Pernell Dawson; sisters, Mary Francis Jones and Magalene Dawson-Carter; and granddaughter, Danielle Dawson.

Mr. Dawson’s visitation will take place from noon to 7 p.m., and the family will receive guests from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19 at the funeral home. A celebration of life service will take place at 1 p.m., Friday, Nov. 20 at Rising St. James PH Church, and he will be laid to rest at Nansemond Suffolk Cemetery.
