“As I have aged, I am kinder to myself . . . less critical . . . and my own friend,” began Mrs. Sarah Jean Walden in a recitation by an unknown author titled “Keep Being Lovable.”

Mount Sinai Baptist Church, located at 6100 Holy Neck Road, held its annual celebration of seniors on Nov. 22.

The honorees smiled knowingly at hearing Walden read, “I like being old. It has set me free. I like the person I have become . . . I’ll eat dessert every day if I feel like it.”

From Ephesians 3:16, Pastor William L. Lang answered a question that many have about how to grow older. “ . . . Even if this old building keeps on leaning, something inside is telling [our senior saints] to go ahead.” Even though one’s body is weak, the will to keep moving forward, to be relevant to those that senior citizens love, and the dedication to one’s faith propel movement within one’s soul.

“Our seniors may not see or recognize it, but it is something they truly understand when they hear it in their hearts,” he concluded.
