George Lee Artis, 81, passed away on Jan. 31, 2016, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. He was a native of Suffolk and the son of the late Cozette Artis and John Henry Artis. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Lee Artis.

He worked at Planters Peanut Company, later Nabisco Brands, as a warehouse laborer and forklift operator, where he retired after 43 years of service. He was a member of Canaan Baptist Church, where he served on the Diaconate Ministry.

He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Barbara Ann Artis and Faye Annette Artis, both of Suffolk; a beloved grandson, Lee Wendell Artis, of Suffolk; two sisters, Rosa Artis, of Suffolk, and Francis Wyche, of Capron; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 8, 2016, at Canaan Baptist Church. Interment will be in Canaan Church Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home Inc. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.crockerfuneralhome.com.
