Rain floods roads

Between one to two inches of rain and snow fell on Suffolk Friday morning, flooding a couple of roads and generally making everything miserable.

Old Mill Road and Camp Pond Road were flooded at bridges as of Friday afternoon, city spokeswoman Diana Klink said.

The National Weather Service office in Wakefield issued a flood warning for the Blackwater River above Franklin. The warning is set to last from 1 a.m. Saturday to 7 p.m. Monday.

The river was at 10.5 feet at 4:45 p.m. Friday, the weather service stated. Flood stage is 10.8 feet. The river was expected to rise near 11.1 feet by Saturday afternoon.

Meteorologist Mike Rusnak said Norfolk reported more than two inches of precipitation, while Wakefield reported an inch and a quarter.

Friday morning’s rain came after several inches combined on Wednesday and Thursday.
