DAR Good Citizens announced

The Constantia Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution has announced the Good Citizens for 2015.

The DAR Good Citizen Award and Scholarship Contest, created in 1934, recognizes six outstanding high school seniors in our community.

The DAR Good Citizens for 2015 are Tori Arthurs of Nansemond River High School, Elizabeth Childs of King’s Fork High School, Margaretha More of Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, Jylian Peterson of Franklin High School, Emily VanDorn of Suffolk Christian Academy and Stasha Waterford of Lakeland High School.

Each school’s DAR Good Citizen receives a pin and a certificate of recognition.

Margaretha “Maggie” More represented the chapter at the District 1 level. She received a $500 scholarship.

Each school’s Good Citizen submits an official transcript, letters of recommendation and an essay describing how to manifest the qualities of a good citizen. The student selected by their teachers and peers must demonstrate dependability, service, leadership and patriotism.
