Player of the Week nominees

Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:

  • Amesha Miller, junior for King’s Fork High School basketball: She had a remarkable week, despite the Lady Bulldogs losing their first game this season. In that loss to host Lake Taylor High School on Friday, she forced overtime with clutch free throws and scored a game-high 30 points. In a 66-64 double overtime Monday win over host Wilson High School, she had 26 points, 21 rebounds and three blocks. In Wednesday’s 75-45 home win over Churchland High School, she had 17 points and 15 boards.
  • Sarah Rhiel, freshman for Nansemond River High School track and field: She helped the Lady Warriors win another conference team title by winning two conference individual titles in Thursday’s PenSouth Conference indoor track and field championships in Hampton. She took first in the 1,000-meter run with a 3:11.89 time, qualifying for regionals. She also came out on top in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 12:13.84, qualifying for regionals.
