Troop 30 pins four Eagle Scouts

Boy Scout Troop 30 presented Eagle medals to four young men on Dec. 27 at a Court of Honor held at Bethlehem Christian Church.

The Eagle Scout award is the highest achievement in the Boy Scouts of America and is earned by only 2 to 4 percent of the youth who enter the program.

Winston Chad Goodman, 18, is a senior at Lakeland High School. Chad has been a Cub Scout in Packs 22 and 30 and earned the Arrow of Light, the highest award in Cub Scouts, before crossing over into Troop 30. He is a Brotherhood member of Order of the Arrow Lodge 333, Scouting’s National Honor Society, and has earned 29 merit badges.  He has served in numerous positions of leadership within the troop. His Eagle project was to construct picnic tables for use at the annual Suffolk Peanut Festival. Chad is the son of Tommy and Pam Goodman and the grandson of Wilbur and Shirley Rountree and John Henry Goodman.

Stephen Robert Lewis, 16, is a junior at Nansemond River High School in the engineering program. Stephen has been a Cub Scout in Pack 30 and earned the Arrow of Light, the highest award in Cub Scouts, before crossing over into Troop 30. He is a Brotherhood member of Order of the Arrow Lodge 333, Scouting’s National Honor Society, and has earned 33 merit badges. He has served in numerous positions of leadership within the troop. His Eagle project rehabilitated 20 art easels that are used at Peanut Fest for the display of school student projects, and he also constructed 10 new art easels for use at the festival. Stephen is the son of Robert and Rachel Lewis and the grandson of Ben and Carol Lewis and Scott and Joyce Wright.

William Hunter March, 17, is a senior at Lakeland High School. Will has been a Cub Scout in Packs 22 and 30 and earned the Arrow of Light, the highest award in Cub Scouts, before crossing over into Troop 30. He is a Brotherhood member of Order of the Arrow Lodge 333, Scouting’s National Honor Society, and has earned 40 merit badges.  He has served in numerous positions of leadership within the troop. His Eagle project rehabilitated an outside chapel area located at Holy Neck Christian Church that is used annually by the youth of the church in conducting Easter sunrise service. Will is the son of Hunter and Jennifer March and the grandson of Mills and Sharon March and Bill and Myra McCraney.

Bradley Holland Peacock, 16, is a home schooled junior. Bradley has been a Cub Scout in Packs 22 and 30 and earned the Arrow of Light, the highest award in Cub Scouts, before crossing over into Troop 30. He is a Brotherhood member of Order of the Arrow Lodge 333, Scouting’s National Honor Society, and has earned 41 merit badges. He has served in numerous positions of leadership within the troop. His Eagle project was to rehabilitate an outdoor chapel facility located at the Scout camping area behind Johnson’s Gardens. This facility is used numerous times per year by Scout unit camping and also periodically by other civic and religious groups. Bradley is the son of Jeffery and Jill Peacock and the grandson of J. Frank and Lois Holland, Jim and Carol Evans and Jeff Sr. and Judy Peacock.

Troop 30 is chartered by the Bethlehem Ruritan Club and was founded in 1953. During the last 62 years, the troop has presented 76 young men with the Eagle Award. These young men join a limited group of men in our community and nation that have earned honor for their accomplishments and continue to provide distinguished service and leadership to their communities and nation.
