During the Adult Awards Luncheon in Chesapeake on Feb. 6, Girl Scouts of the Colonial Coast honored Suffolk residents Lisa McIvor and Cheryl Hendricks for their volunteer service with the organization.

McIvor received the Thanks Badge for her ongoing commitment, leadership and service to Girl Scouts. She is the leader of Girl Scout Troop 669 and helps recruit Girl Scouts in Suffolk.

Since the inception of the volunteer-led Girl Scout Cookie Classic Run last year, McIvor has been active on the planning committee, helping to organize registration, find sponsors and publicize the event. Thanks to her time and talents, the event raised funds to provide financial assistance for local girls to join Girl Scouts and attend camp.

“Lisa is hardworking and dedicated to Girl Scouts,” said Jillian Sweetland, membership specialist for Girl Scouts of the Colonial Coast. “She has a tremendous understanding of the good she can do and strives to make sure that she and the girls in her troop exemplify the Girl Scout Promise and Law.”

Hendricks received an Appreciation Pin, which recognizes her for her outstanding service in delivering the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to girls Suffolk.

She holds numerous volunteer roles to support Girl Scouts, including troop leader and community relations coordinator. Hendricks also fills the position of troop coordinator, and in this role, she helps plan and implement activities and events for girls throughout the city.

This summer, Hendricks helped to coordinate a four-week cooking series for Suffolk Girl Scouts.

“Cheryl has worked to organize a variety of activities for Suffolk Girl Scouts,” said Linda Henk, a fellow Girl Scout leader. “During this time, she also has been a leader for her own group of girls. Cheryl has given her time, talents and energy to make sure that girls in our troop have a good experience while in Girl Scouts.”
