Four people injured in crash

Four people were taken to hospitals after a crash on Whaleyville Boulevard just before noon on Friday.

Suffolk Police and Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded to the crash in the 8500 block of Whaleyville Boulevard at 11:50 a.m., according to a city press release.

The crash involved a Chevrolet Equinox and a Windstar Minivan, according to the release. The driver of the Equinox suffered minor injuries and was taken by ground ambulance to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Three people occupied the minivan, according to the release. Two were airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, one via Nightingale and one via Med Flight 1, according to the press release. The third occupant was taken to Sentara Norfolk General by ground ambulance.

Whaleyville Boulevard was closed at Freeman Mill Road in both directions while wreckers worked to clear the vehicles.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, according to the release.
