Suffolk Public Libraries are asking for school supplies to support teachers.

The Teacher Supply Drive will collect school supplies for Suffolk public schools in April, and then deliver the donations to the schools on Teacher Appreciation Day, which is May 2.

Suffolk library services coordinator Shawna LoMonaco said the event is to help teachers get necessary classroom supplies as the school year comes to an end.

“Classrooms run low on school supplies as the year comes to an end, and teachers often spend their own money on school supplies,” she said.

Donations will be collected at Chuckatuck, Morgan Memorial and North Suffolk libraries. Donations can also be made at Library2Go events. Kleenex, pencils, paper, hand sanitizer, erasers, markers and crayons are suggested, but all school supplies are welcome.

“The more, the merrier,” LoMonaco said. “We’re grateful to take anything to the schools and share it with them.”

Supplies will be distributed at the end of the month, with a focus on elementary schools.

“We’ll see how much we’ve collected and do our best to distribute it throughout the schools,” LoMonaco said.
