Two people died in a crash that involved an SUV and a motorcycle Monday afternoon.

Police and firefighters responded to the accident about 1:45 p.m. in the 6600 block of Old Myrtle Road at the intersection of Old Mill Road, according to a city press release. Preliminary investigation found the Chevrolet Tahoe and motorcycle were both traveling on Old Mill Road when the accident occurred.

The adult male driver and female passenger of the motorcycle were pronounced deceased on the scene, according to the press release. They were identified as Peter Donald Veillette, 65, and Donna Lee Jones, 52, both of Gates County, N.C.

The adult female driver of the Tahoe was taken by ground ambulance to a local hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening, according to the press release.

The intersection of Old Myrtle Road and Old Mill Road was closed at all four approaches for much of the afternoon due to the ongoing investigation.
