Nansemond-Suffolk Academy softball team defeated Isle of Wight Academy 3-2 Wednesday and is now ready for postseason play.

It was a close one for the away-from-home Lady Saints, but they were able to close the game with a 3-2 win. That win finishes NSA out with a 16-2 record in the regular season.

IWA started off the game with a 2-0 lead. NSA didn’t get on the scoreboard until the fifth inning, where they rattled off three runs to give them the lead. Delaney Taylor’s home run drove in two runs to help secure the win for the Lady Saints. That is Taylor’s second home run of the year. Emerson Puzey was tasked with pitching duties, and she struck out six batters. She is now 8-2 on the year. Addy Greene went 3-4 with one run.

“That hit felt amazing, especially because it put us ahead,” Taylor said. “That’s one of the best feelings I can think of.”

NSA will now be on to the postseason as the No. 1 seed in the Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools tournament. The Lady Saints have also claimed the same position in the VISAA Division II poll.

After defeating the previous No. 1, Greenbrier Christian Academy, NSA rose to the top. IWA was the No. 3 team in that same poll, which makes NSA’s wins that much more impressive.

TCIS tournament play will start at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at NSA. The Lady Saints have a chance to do something special.

“We are taking everything day by day,” Taylor said. “We want to focus on the present task at hand. We’ve been preparing for this kind of season for years now, and I believe we are ready to go all the way.”
