Wedding: Rodwell and Hamlin

Dana L. Rodwell and Ivan T. Hamlin were united in marriage Aug. 22, 2009, at the Hampton Roads Convention Center in Hampton. The ceremony was officiated by Rev. Dr. Eldridge Lucas III of Emmanuel Baptist Church of Smithfield.
The bride is the daughter of Luther and Vinell Burrus of Suffolk and John L. Warthen of Clementon, N.J. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Mills T. Bailey Sr. and Mrs. Norman Greene. She is the goddaughter of Ruby N. Greene and Melvin Greene of Smithfield.
The groom is the son of Alvin and Peggy Hamlin of Smithfield. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph C. Thomas and Mr. and Mrs. Author Hamlin Sr.
The bride was escorted and given away by her stepfather and father. Yolanda Elder of Smithfield was the matron of honor. Maids of honor were Shavon Rodwell and Asha Rodwell, sisters of the bride. Junior bridesmaid was Jasmine Hamlin of Hampton, niece of groom. The shadow bride was Tyler Rodwell of Suffolk, daughter of the bride and groom. Saniya Eddy of Smithfield was the flower girl.
Thomas Hamlin of Portsmouth, brother of the groom, served as best man. Groomsmen were Michiah Reynolds and Alvin Hamlin Jr., both of Hampton. Junior groomsman was Xavier Elder of Smithfield, and shadow groom was Christopher Vance of Suffolk, son of the bride and groom.
The wedding director was Marion Wrenn of Smithfield. Her assistants were Katherine Chapman, Carolyn Pollard and Deborah Spratley, all of Smithfield.
The couple honeymooned with their two children in Hilton Head Island, S.C. They now reside in Portsmouth.

Engagement: Whitley and Rock

Spring Marie Whitley of Elberon has announced her engagement to Jason Dennis Rock, also of Elberon.
Whitley is a graduate of Windsor High School and is employed by Horizon Health Services.
Rock is a graduate of Nansemond-Suffolk Academy and Bridgewater College. He is employed by Northrop Grumman.
An October wedding is planned in Carrollton.

Engagement: Pope and Gunn

Ronald G. and Karen Pope of Suffolk and Lois and Lin Darden of Franklin announce the engagement of their daughter, Glynda Erin-Marie Pope, to Kevin Earl Gunn.
Gunn is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Earl Gunn of Courtland.
Pope is the maternal granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emmett T. Umphlett and the paternal granddaughter of Daisy C. Pope and the late Clayton H. Pope.
She is a 2006 graduate of Southampton High School and a 2009 graduate of Paul D. Camp Community College. She is a Registered Nurse at Southern Virginia Regional Medical Center in Emporia.
Gunn is the maternal grandson of Mr. and Mrs. William C. Bailey Sr. and the paternal grandson of Lillian C. Gunn and the late Marvin B. Gunn Sr.
He is a 2001 graduate of Southampton High School. He is a supervisor for the Virginia Department of Transportation in Emporia.
A wedding is planned in May at the Rock Church in Franklin.
