Fire damages Archer's Mill Road home

Published Wednesday, August 28, 2002

Captain Jim Judkins of the Suffolk Fire Department said an Archer's Mill Road home sustained $15,000 in fire damages early Tuesday morning. There were no injuries in the incident.

Firefighters from Suffolk and Windsor's Volunteer Fire Department arrived at the 3200 block of Archer's Mill Road to find the 1,104-square-foot garage at the residence in flames.

"The building was consumed with flames so intense it melted the siding and cracked three windows in the residence," said Judkins. "The home was located about 20 feet away from the garage and intense heat also caused damages to the steps of the swimming pool near the house."

The fire is believed to have started on a workbench in the garage, however, the exact cause of the blaze is undetermined.

Judkins said the owner of the $70,000 home, Dale O. Duncan, used the $25,000 garage as a workshop and it contained a variety of tools. The garage also served as the family recreation room, a craft room and it housed the pool's filtration system.
