Jews skeptical over prospect of leaving Germany

BERLIN (AP) - Formation of a federation of Jews in Germany, which will constitute their official representation in dealings with the Nazi government, was announced today in the weekly Centralverein eitung, organ of German Jewry.

The organization united all Jewish societies under one head. Rabbi Leo Baeck, chief rabbi of Berlin, was named president.

The development comes at a time when an international effort is being made to aid emigration of Jews from this country.

George Brandt, official United States observer, is making a survey of the possibilities. Jews themselves predicted that finding emigration opportunities for them would be an almost insurmountable task.

The new Jewish federation issued a brief appeal in which it stated that all Jews were entitled to look for assistance.

Curtis Holland injured in fall

Curtis W. Holland of 308 York Street received a severe head injury last night when he fell 20 feet from a ladder on which he was attempting to fix a pipe connection in the driveway of H.I. Jaffe Furniture Company.

Mr. Holland is said to have landed on his head in the concrete driveway. Dr. C.H. Dawson was summoned immediately after the accident and after treating the injured man, ordered him to bed.

Brinkley returns from camping trip

City Manager R.H. Brinkley is back at his desk today after a 10-day vacation on Bogue Sound, near Swansboro, N.C. Mr. Brinkley stayed at a camping lodge belonging to his brother where he put in several days fishing.

In commenting on the recent northeast storm, Mr. Brinkley said he was going to produce a picture in a few days for the benefit of some of the city officials to prove that he and his party had at least some degree of success fishing.

Perry Turner wins Bowen slogan prize

Perry E. Turner, 119 Chestnut Street, was named winner of the slogan award in H.J. Bowen's merchandise club yesterday. Mr. Turner's slogan was: "Your satisfaction is Bowen's best attraction."

Norma Lee Blanchard guest of honor at delightful party

Mrs. C.L. Blanchard entertained Tuesday afternoon at her home on Pearl Street at a delightful party complimentary to her daughter, Norma Lee Blanchard, who celebrated her ninth birthday. Games were played and in a contest, the prize was won by Robert Bangley.

The centerpiece for the table was a large birthday cake with nine lighted candles, ices, cakes, candies and nuts were served by Mrs. Blanchard, assisted by Mrs. R.A. Baines, Mrs. J.H. Bangley and Mrs. James Hancock.

Those present were Helen Wesson, Joyce Baines, Gerald Blanchard, Margaret Ann Felton, Maurice Moore, C.C. Allen, James Robert and Bernard Bangley, Richard Baines, Vernon Jones and Norma Lee Blanchard.

New assistant manager

John H. Wardall is the new assistant manager of Montgomery Ward's Suffolk store.

He came to Suffolk from Elkins, W.Va., where he has been associated with the company for the past three years.

Mr. Wardall succeeds R.H. Shepherd, who was recently transferred to the Newport News, Va., store.
