Liddy meted 1 to 3 years
WASHINGTON (UPI) - John D. Ehrlichman, President Nixon's former top domestic affairs adviser, was given a prison sentence of 20 months to five years in prison today for conspiracy in the Elisberg break-in.
Enrlichman continued to proclaim his innocence before sentence was imposed by U.S. District Judge Gerhard A. Gesell. Removing his glasses as he stood before the judge, Ehrlichman said, "I believe I am the only one who really knows whether I am guilty and, your honor, I am innocent of each and every charge."
White House: Future presidents threatened by third article
President Nixon's aides say the House Judiciary Committee is setting the stage for constitutional clashes between Congress and future presidents by recommending Nixon's impeachment for refusing to honor subpoenas.
One White House official, who declined to be quoted by name, said the committee set "a dangerous precedent" Tuesday when it voted 21 to 17 for an impeachment article accusing Nixon of failing to supply 147 Watergate-related tape recordings.
Godwin: Evidence insufficient to impeach
RICHMOND (UPI) - Gov. Mills E. Godwin Jr. Tuesday said recent developments have not changed his mind and he still does not believe there's sufficient evidence to warrant impeachment of President Nixon.
The governor said "none of the revelations in the last few days have changed my mind," although the Judiciary impeachment votes "have not been on the plus side for the President."
Mayor listed satisfactory
Mayor James F. Hope underwent surgery at Norfolk General Hospital Tuesday and was reported in satisfactory condition this morning.
The mayor has suffered from a ruptured spinal disc and a pinched nerve since before councilman campaign last spring.
His office this morning said it is not known how long he will be confined in the hospital.
