Panel to make no conclusions on Nixon role
WASHINGTON (UPI) - The Secret Watergate committee will issue its report without reaching any conclusions about President Nixon's role in Watergate, but two other committees are trying to answer that and other puzzling questions.
The House Judiciary Committee looked Wednesday into Nixon's role in firing the former Special Prosecutor Archibald Cox and the Senate Judiciary Committee heard from Assistant Attorney General Henry E. Petersen in an effort to find out why the government stopped its probe of the Watergate break-in without investigating to see whether anyone higher in the administration was implicated.
Last meeting ends era for merged councils
The last regular meeting of Suffolk's merged councils - "the end of an era, as Mayor Hope called it - was marked Wednesday night by expressions of nostalgia and hope for the future.
In handing appreciation plaques to six outgoing councilmen, Hope recalled "these men have worked long and hard, ... tirelessly together." He praised their dedication and sense of cooperation that marked the days before and after the new city came into being.
(Council members referred to include Vice Mayor D.J. Magnum and members Edwin C. Ferguson Jr., Howard Munford, Joe Savage, George Barnett, and Harry Lee Cross.
Council J.W. Nelms, who is not going out, said he hoped he was as good as his colleagues on council think but not as bad as the News-Herald said.

Old drugstore to change hands quietly on July 4th
On the fourth of July, while Americans noisily celebrate independence, an old local firm will quietly change hands and go on with business as usual.
Nansemond Drug Co., at 1215 N. Main St, one of the oldest pharmacies in Suffolk, is being sold by its present owner, BJ, Fitzhugh, to David Hopewell, presently the manager of People's Drug Store on the corner of West Washington and South Saratoga streets.
Fitzhugh, 67, is going into a well-earned retirement.
