Lucille Seward

Mrs. Lucille Seward of 103 North Eighth St., Suffolk, died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, in Obici Hospital.

She was a native of Enfield, N.C., and was a daughter of the late Buck and Amanda Mitchell Whitaker.

She worked for a number of years at the peanut factory and doing domestic work.

She was a member of Pleasant Union Baptist Church.

In the late 1950s she moved to Suffolk where she met and married her late husband, Robert Seward. There were no children born if this union, however, she was blessed to have helped raised her three brothers who preceded her in death. Then she assisted with the next generation of children, Ann Batts and Dora Brown; two first cousins, Margaret Hieke who took care of her during her last days, and Frances Alexander. She also leaves to cherish her memory, one sister, Catherine Hopkins of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and special nieces nephews and cousins.

A funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, in Crocker Funeral Home by Gregory Somers. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
