Suffolk was given $185,000 in Community Development Grant Funds today by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), according to a spokesman for Congressman Robert W. Daniel.

The funds will be used for the installation of water lines, according to the grant application submitted June 30 by the city's office for Human Resources.

Central water systems were again at stake Tuesday afternoon during the regular monthly meeting of the Suffolk Planning Commission.

The commission approved a preliminary plat request by Farmington Estates subdivision in Chuckatuck Borough to use individual wells to supply water for 53 lots.

City Cancer Society officers installed

New officers were installed and service awards were presented at the annual Cancer Society dinner meeting held Tuesday evening at the West End Baptist Church.

Alex W.Oliver, chairman of the fund drive, was installed Tuesday as president of the organization. Other new officers are Charles Powell, first vice president; John Jones, second vice president; Barbara Carter, secretary; and Mildred Jordan, treasurer.

Two unbeaten districts meet

There are three unbeaten teams in Peanut District Group AA football-Southampton, John Yeates, and Smithfield-and at least one of the three is likely to take a loss Friday night.

The loser, barring a tie, would be either Southampton or Smithfield, since they clash at Southampton. Yeates hosts Franklin and the Broncos could make it uncomfortable for the Chargers.
