Magician to perform at Obici Sunday

Published Monday, April 28, 2003

The Obici Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary is sponsoring the "Young Audiences of Virginia" program Sunday, May 4th, beginning at 2:30 p.m. on the Garden Level.

The public is invited to attend and it is free to all. Refreshments will be served.

In the Colonial Daze program, Wood will walk viewers through the colonial period of our nation's history in the footsteps of some of our greatest historical figures.

Debbie Williams, President of Obici Hospital's Volunteer Auxiliary, said the program is suited to people of all ages.

"Mr. Wood's performance is highly entertaining and the program very educational," she added. "We're never too young or too old to learn, especially when the material is delivered in such an entertaining format."

Young Audiences of Virginia is a statewide nonprofit organization working to maintain a focus on the arts in education.

Williams said the Obici Volunteer Auxiliary is extremely pleased to bring performers from Young Audiences to the community. Auxiliary members instrumental in securing this program are excited about presenting the program in this new format. They also look forward to bringing additional programs to the hospital for the public.

Williams added, the Colonial Daze program explores the original 13 colonies through a magical journey that reinforces the importance of reading and learning about history.

Fun sets and costumes create backdrops that visually enable students to make the connections between Virginia and the other twelve colonies.

"The magic of Harold Wood's inspiring performance helps students learn about important Virginians who contributed so much to our Commonwealth and to our Nation," said Williams. "From Betsy Ross to Arthur Ashe, children learn that we make our history and our heritage every day."

Reservations are not required for this program. For more information, contact the Volunteer Office of Obici Hospital at 934-4789.
