New clerk thanks voting public, supporters
Published Friday, December 26, 2003
Editor, the News-Herald:
I would like to take this opportunity to express my thanks on your selection of me as your next Clerk of Court. To those who voted for me, I thank you. For those who didn't, it is my hope that my performance over the next eight years will cause you to vote for me the next time.
I would like to congratulate the other candidates for running campaigns that put the focus on where it should be. That is, who was best qualified to run the clerk's office. Hopefully, through our efforts, we have been able to better educate the citizens on what exactly the clerk's office does. It is vitally important that the citizens have an understanding of what each of their public servants does.
I would be remiss if I did not extend special thanks to my wife, Luci. She was with me throughout the campaign and her contributions cannot be measured.
To those who worked on and helped my campaign, I owe you a debt of gratitude that words do not do justice to. Without their help, I would not be where I am today. I am eternally grateful to you.
I had previously stated that one of the true joys of the campaign was being able to meet my fellow citizens from all over Suffolk. This city has a real strength because of you and that will lead to a bright future for us all. I look forward in the coming years to continuing the relationships made during the campaign and to make new ones. The warmth and graciousness shown to me by you will not be forgotten.
Again, thank you for this opportunity to serve you. May each of you have a happy and joyous holiday season and a happy new year.
Yours very truly,
W. Randolph Carter Jr.
