Becky Hofler, 3, locks self in; firemen to rescue

Becky Hofler, 3, daughter of Mrs. Thomas Hofler of Linden Avenue, put both herself and her mother in a bit of a predicament late yesterday afternoon.

Apparently pursuing the intricacies of the lock on the bathroom door, Becky suddenly discovered she had found secured the door so tightly so that she couldn't get out and her mother couldn't get in.

Finally, in desperation, she called the Suffolk Fire Department.

Ingenious firemen quickly extracted the key from the bathroom door lock, freeing Becky and restoring harmony

to the Hofler household.

Two old ships embedded in the Dismal Swamp

The reported existence of two ships (or boats) embedded in the Dismal Swamp near Suffolk is the object of an investigation by Major W.E. MacClenney, noted Suffolk historian.

The major has recorded substantiated evidence that two ships do exist in the swamp - one near Driver, at the head of Bennett's Creek, and the other about two miles north of Magnolia Springs on the new Suffolk-Norfolk Highway.
