Summer already settling in its first week

Wiping her brow, Vickie Whitehead took a long swig her bottle of water.
"It's hot out here now," she said Thursday while waiting at the bus stop on South Saratoga Street. "But yesterday was scorching."
Although they didn't break any records, the temperatures and heat indexes have made the past two days the hottest to date this summer, said Tim Gingrich, a spokesman in the National Weather Service's office in Wakefield. Temperatures were in the lower 90s on both days but the high humidity levels made them feel as though they were in the triple digits.
Today will start out just as hot but afternoon thunderstorms will pave the way for a sunny, slightly cooler weekend, Gingrich said.
Temperatures will reach the lower 80s on both Saturday and Sunday.
