Two U.S. soldiers killed, one wounded in Afghan ambush

BAGRAM, Afghanistan (AP) - Four gunmen on motorcycles ambushed a U.S. military reconnaissance patrol in southern Afghanistan on Saturday, killing two Americans and wounding a third, officials said.

From Seoul to Santiago, protesters turn out

BERLIN (AP) - Anti-war demonstrators turned out in the thousands from South Korea to Chile on Saturday, spattering streets with paint, jeering outside U.S. embassies and in one case forming a 31-mile human chain.

More than 100,000 people protested in strongly anti-war Germany, half of them at a rally in Berlin, where banners in the crowd read "Stop America's Terror.'' About 30,000 people held hands along the 31 miles between the northwestern cities of Muenster and Osnabrueck - a route used by negotiators who brought the Thirty Years War to an end in 1648.

Long war, civilian deaths might not change opinions

WASHINGTON (AP) - One chief goal of the war in Iraq is to convince Arabs that America was on their side and that getting rid of Saddam Hussein will benefit them, too. But as prospects rise for a longer war and more dead Iraqi civilians, U.S. hopes of quickly swinging Arab and European public opinion to its favor are starting to fade.

Missile launches halted

CAMP AS SAYLIYAH, Qatar (AP) - The United States halted Tomahawk cruise missile launches over parts of Saudi Arabia after the kingdom complained that some of the weapons landed in the vast desert country, the U.S. Central Command said Saturday.
