New charges brought against Applewhite
Published Friday, August 27, 2004
Staff Report
Four new misdemeanor charges have been filed against former Carver Memorial Cemetery owner Abraham Applewhite.
A grand jury on Wednesday indicted Applewhite of three counts of conducting a funeral service without a license and one count of transporting a body illegally.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, Applewhite appeared in Circuit Court to be sentenced on a plea bargain he struck in June. Applewhite pleaded guilty in June to obtaining money under false pretenses, a felony. Two other charges - writing bad checks and operating a cemetery without a license - were dropped as part of the agreement.
The state revoked Applewhite's cemetery license last year
