Reader concerned about America

Published Friday, February 27, 2004

Editor, the News-Herald:

In response to the recent letter to the editor, "Government should stay out of religion business:"

The phrase, "separation of Church and State" is not in the Constitution. This statement was in a letter written by my ancestor, Thomas Jefferson, after he was president. He was writing to a Southern Baptist group stating that the government has no right to make laws preventing our religious freedom. In the Constitution, the First Amendment states: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Our country is a country that was founded on the Judeo-Christian principles. At the time the Constitution was written, this was the recognized ideology for the United States. This was to prevent the government from stating that everyone was required to be a Puritan, Catholic, Episcopal or the like. The Founding Fathers knew what life had been like just in the past with the Church of England and the dictatorship of the Catholic Church where people were made to pay a lot of money to the church for repentance of their sin.

The First Virginia Charter states that one of the purposes that King James desired to establish a permanent English settlement in the New World was to teach Christianity to the savages.

It is an absolute shame that the liberal people of this world who, in my opinion are trying to establish the religion of Satan, are forcing on our children and nation Satan's desire of sin. Even the religions of Hindu and Islam are against the religion of immorality of Satan. They are encouraging homosexuality, sex before marriage, trying to change the definition of marriage, drug freedom use as in marijuana, pornography in their TV shows and movies, and disrespect for parents. The government has encouraged young teens to have illegitimate children by rewarding them with welfare for each illegitimate child, causing them to be a slave to the system instead of getting a good high school education. The public schools encourage this satanic religion too by teaching them how to have safe sex instead of encouraging them to have no sex until marriage. Once, when I asked a member of the Suffolk Public Schools Family Life Curriculum Board if they require teaching abstinence until marriage, the answer was: "No, we cannot get into such moral issues". But they sure are willing to teach how to have sex safely.

It was so obvious during President Bush's 2004 State of the Union Speech recently that the Democrats were against Abstinence Until Marriage based sex education funding in the schools. They did not even stand up and applaud when President Bush mentioned the increased funding for the program, but sat there like a bump on a log, just apathetic.

Wake up, America! Realize what the liberal agenda has planned for you, your children and grandchildren. They want you to be so influenced in desiring Satan's plan for immorality. Anyone running for public office who endorses abortion or homosexual sex/marriage or legal unions, is out there working for Satan. Think twice before you vote for them just because you think they will make you life better with more money, programs and funding for you. Your vote for them is a vote against God's law.
