What is this?
Price fixing in Surprising Suffolk
Published Sunday, June 27, 2004
Editor, the News-Herald:
Yesterday, I had to transport the Stroker Dodge to the Auto Technology to be fine-tuned for the upcoming drag race at Hertford this weekend, since we do not have a qualified mechanic or shop to do so.
Guess what? Gasoline one mile north of the Indian River exit on I-64 on Military Highway was $1.74 per gallon for 87 octane (regular unleaded). At the local Farm Fresh, it was $1.89 per gallon.
Naturally, I topped my tank with Shell, the blend that performs best, tank after tank, in the street-legal Stroker Dodge.
Now, readers, tell me locally the petroleum distributors are not meeting behind closed doors to keep our local prices at $1.89 per gallon. You can darn well bet Aunt Sally's jewelry and winter woolies that they are. I suggest we boycott them for 10 days and see what happens.
