Edith C. George

Edith Council George, 75, died Saturday, March 20 at her home in Suffolk.

Born in Bolton, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Milton Clyde and Mary Rebecca Partridge Council. Mrs. George was predeceased by a sister, Lucy Ivey, and a brother, David Council.

Mrs. George was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Southampton Community Chorus and South Quay Bridge Club.

She was a member of South Quay Baptist Church and attended Beaver Dam Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Chancel Choir.

Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Raymond B. George Sr.; two daughters, Robin G. McLean, and husband, Archie, of Lumberton, N.C.; and Lisa G. Robertson, and husband, Dale, of Windsor; one son, Raymond B. George Jr., and wife, Gail, of Burkeville; three sisters, Victoria Skipper of Reading, Pa.; Mary Glover of Franklin; and Betty Richardson of Florida; two brothers, Neal Council of South Mills, N.C.; and Roy Council of Zuni; six grandchildren, Raymond B. "Jay" George III, Angela D. Thornton, Melissa McLean, Andrew McLean, Rhonda Howell, and Edward Johnson; two great-grandchildren, Tyler Howell and Katie Howell; and two beloved pets, Tootsie and Molly.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Beaver Dam Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Richard L. Peerey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, and suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Mrs. Ruth Petty, 116 Southampton Rd., Franklin, VA 23851.
