Edward D. Umphlett Sr.

Edward Douglas "Doug" Umphlett Sr., 79, a native of Gates, N.C., and a resident of 1305 Buckhorn Drive,
died May 23, 2004, at Obici Hospital.
He retired after 40 years of service at Planters as an electric eye operator.
He was a Baptist.
He was a member of the Buckhorn Hunt Club and a U.S. Navy veteran who served during WWII. He was the son of the late Shade Umphlett and Nora Robertson Umphlett. He was also predeceased by three brothers, George, Eugene, and Wallace Umphlett, and a sister, Joyce U. Baines.
Survivors are his wife, Emily McClenny Umphlett of Suffolk; son, E. Douglas "Dougie" Umphlett Jr. of Suffolk; sisters and brother-in-law, Elizabeth Carolyn Smith and Morgan Smith and Margaret U. Warren, all of Suffolk; and a brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Sylvia Umphlett of Windsor.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Sidney F. Harrell Chapel of Harrell and Hill Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Burns officiating. Interment will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery.
Friends may join the family from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Harrell and Hill Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
