Kennedy says he'll tell 'K' U.S. to fight for freedom

WASHINGTON - President Kennedy said Saturday night he is going to Vienna to tell Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev that the United States is "determined to resist all those who seek the destruction of freedom."

Kennedy said this determination is matched only by America's desire for peace.

"The silent guest at every conference table," said Kennedy, "will be the freedom of man."

The President addressed a whoop-it-up Democratic Party fund-raising dinner - but largely in nonpolitical terms. In a talk to nearly 6,000 of the party faithful, he bore down instead on the journey he undertakes Tuesday that will carry him to Paris, Vienna and London. He said that while there is no substitute for long, difficult diplomatic negotiations, personal meetings of men bearing the responsibility for momentous decisions can help ward off danger and lessen tension.

Flash fire guts cruiser at dock

A $25,000 cabin cruiser owned by Raymond Brown was gutted by a freak fire at Brady's Marina Friday night, forcing the owner overboard and causing him minor injuries.

Brown said he went over the side of the cruiser when a "ball of fire ran down my arm." The craft's fuel tanks were nearly empty and Brown said he feared an explosion. He suffered scraped shins and burns on the inside of his left arm.

Brown has no explanation for the cause of the fire.
