Officials still investigating Thanksgiving Day fire

Officials are stilling investigating the fire that ripped through a Kingsboro Street home around 11 a.m. Thanksgiving Day.

"It looks accidental but we have not nailed down the exact cause," said Capt. Jim Judkins, spokesman for Suffolk Fire Department.

"That's why we are keeping it open."

The fire appears to have started in the kitchen, possibly caused

by an electrical shortage, Judkins said.

Firefighters called out to the home in the 300 block of Kingsboro Street found heavy smoke pouring out of the upper floor of the home, officials said. The blaze was under control by noon.

Two firefighters received minor injuries fighting the blaze, he said.

Warren Perkins, who rented the house from Cross Realty, was not home when the fire started, Judkins said. His two dogs escaped in the house unharmed.

Damage estimates total $62,000.

Also on Thanksgiving Day, police and fire officials spent several hours at a car accident

on Gates Road, near Pineview Road, Judkins said.

Three people were pinned

in the car, with one airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and two others transported to Obici Hospital.

Additional information on the accident was not available due to the city's holiday.
