Mayor to hit the switch to light downtown's Christmas tree

On, Friday, Dec. 3, Suffolk Mayor Bobby L. Ralph will light up Downtown Suffolk's Christmas tree on the grounds of the Seaboard Station Railroad Museum, located at 326 North Main Street.

Built in 1885, the Seaboard Station was recently restored by the Suffolk-Nansemond Historical Society.

Now a community landmark featuring a miniature train model of Suffolk at the beginning of the 20th century, the Seaboard Station is not only a museum, but also a focal point for special events such as the Christmas tree lighting.

Adding to the festivities will be entertainment provided by talented students in the Lakeland High School Concert Band,

Elephant's Fork Elementary School Chorus, and the Nansemond River High School Varsity Choir.

Compliments of the city, the Suffolk Moose Club will serve hot cider, hot chocolate and Christmas cookies.

The schedule includes:

-4 p.m. Lakeland High School Concert Band

-4:30 p.m. Elephant's Fork Elementary School Chorus

-4:45 p.m. Nansemond River High School Varsity Choir

-5:15 p.m Lakeland High School Concert Band

Hosted by the City of Suffolk, the Downtown Suffolk Christmas Tree Lighting is free.

and open to the public, and will be held rain or shine.

Free parking is available in the Seaboard Station parking lot.
