Kiki Sheard to bring the Clark Gospel tradition to Peanut Fest
Published Sunday, October 3, 2004
Special to the News-Herald
The 27th Annual Peanut Fest is a rich tapestry of entertainment and this year in particular, there is a great deal of excitement over a new star on the
horizon, Kierra "Kiki" Sheard.
Singing courses through the genetic makeup of this star and taking the Gospel music charts by storm, she's all set to perform at the 2004 Peanut Fest Gospel Sing.
KiKi will perform Sunday, Oct. 10, from 2 to 6 p.m., on the Harvest Family Stage, sponsored and hosted by WXEZ-FM Star 94.1, and already, people are making plans to see this bright new "Stellar Award" artist.
At the tender age of nine, KiKi, burst into the limelight as the daughter of Karen Clark Sheard, a great Gospel singer who has been a tremendous success.
KiKi was pre-destined for stardom because in her veins also runs the blood of the late Dr. Mattie Moss Clark, the famous Church of God in Christ musical mastermind.
Now a mature 17-year old, KiKi, targets a new generation with her debut album, I Owe You, and she may do a few hits from the album while at Peanut Fest.
Because she is of a new generation, KiKi says she not singing the same old Gospel message, but putting a new message there that came first hand to her.
She has had a few experiences that she feels certain only God could have brought her through.
For instance, she recalls the near-death battle her mother fought a few years back. It has been life's experiences that have fashioned her style and performance of the music she prefers.
KiKi sees her performances not just as music but as Gospel music and she attempts to infuse her songs with the ministry of God that has been passed down to her from as far back as her grandmother.
And now it's her turn to pass on that rich legacy and she will be doing so on Oct. 10 at Peanut Fest. Along with KiKi, two local Gospel greats will also sing their hearts out for the Lord.
Melvina Harrison and Damon Little will be performing at the Gospel Sing, and it is sure to be a standing room only event
because of their great popularity.
Look for all this great entertainment and much, much more at Peanut Fest 2004.
