Lady Saints plan to play up the pep

Published Monday, August 29, 2005

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy's girls tennis team is in a bit of a pinch to start the TCIS season, which will begin for the Lady Saints at home Thursday against Catholic. There's only two returning seniors from last year, and Susie Slack is the squad's third coach in four years.

But newcomer Genny Stulb has a secret weapon.

"I'm bringing pep!" said the sophomore. "I'm going to keep everyone's spirits high."

According to Katherine Napora, one of the returners with Samantha Williams, they seem pretty up already.

"It's not that hard, because we have good people," said the (currently) top-ranked Lady Saint, who ended up fourth in the TCIS last season. "Everyone tries really hard."

New players like Christine Standalh have a new reason to do so.

"We just come together as a new team and get better," she said. "It's a lot of fun, because the games really count, and there's more pressure."
