Five Lady Cavs to play in field hockey nationals

Five past and/or present Lakeland High School field hockey players will show their skills at the USA Field Hockey Association's National Futures Championship July 9-18 at the USA Field Hockey National Training Center in Virginia Beach.

Kaity Byrum will play for the U14 USA South squad, while Lindsay Cutchins and Ashby Stancill will play on the U16 Norfolk squad. Katelyn Smither, who graduated in early June, and Kelsey Cutchins will play on the U19 Raleigh team.

Through their performances at nationals, athletes may be selected to play in the Futures Elite, Olympic Development Select or Elite Teams Trial, the USA-Canada Field Hockey Challenge or the AAU Junior Olympic Games, which is for players 16 and under.
