Contractors putting finishing touches on Hillpoint Woods Apartments
Published Tuesday, March 29, 2005
You may be a professional working in the downtown Suffolk area.
But if you're a renter, chances are you have to travel to the northern end of the city - or beyond - to get home every night.
That can be a problem of the past, thank to the newly opened Hillpoint Woods Apartments, said Pat Whitehurst, property manager of the upscale complex off Godwin Boulevard.
"We offer a new, fairly affordable housing option," said Whitehurst. "We're not too expensive, we're fairly reasonable in the scheme of things."
Contractors are putting the finishing touches on the last three buildings in the 144-unit complex, Whitehurst said. Twelve of the one-and-two bedroom units have been rented since the first buildings were completed last December.
Monthly rents range from $750 for the one-bedroom to $950 for the two-bedroom, two-bath units, she said. Besides the traditional annual lease, Hillpoint offers six-month and three-month corporate leases.
The apartment complex offers numerous amenities, including access to a clubhouse, swimming pool, high-speed Internet availability and washer/dryer hookups. Residents can have pets and access to an on-site storage facility for small additional fees.
"Our location is our biggest draw," said Whitehurst. "It's nice and secluded; it doesn't take long to feel like you're in the country."
But the prime location is also making renting the apartments a little more challenging.
The apartment complex isn't visible from Godwin Boulevard - the nearest main thoroughfare, Whitehurst said. Consequently, she believes a lot of people don't even realize that Hillpoint Apartments exists.
"Things will start to pick up as soon as word gets out that we are here," she said.
"So far, we have had a lot of visitors from Smithfield and a few from Suffolk.
"We're excited to be here."
