Suffolk Retired Teachers Association receives national award for service
Published Sunday, May 29, 2005
The Suffolk Retired Teachers Association recently received an award from the National Retired Teachers Association for its participation in AARP's National Day of Service 2004. The Retired Teachers Association is an arm of the American Association of Retired People.
The Suffolk Retired Teachers Association chose four elementary schools in the city, Booker T. Washington, Kilby Shores, Elephants Fork and Northern Shores for the project. Members read to classes, shelved books in the library, read to individual students, and worked with social studies and math classes. The members totally enjoyed the experience, and the administration and faculty were very appreciative. Members considered the day was a total success.
The award reads as follows: "National Retired Teachers Association-AARP's Educator Community-With our Youth-Promising new Opportunities Suffolk Retired Teachers Association 2004 Dedication Award."
