Local band to play in Norfolk

Suffolk High School's 65-piece marching band, under the direction of John Molinari, has accepted an invitation to take part in the Oyster Bowl festivities at Norfolk on Oct. 8 when William and Mary College will oppose V. M. I. in a Southern Conference football game.

The Suffolk band, organized only last year and currently making its first appearance at high school grid games, is recognized as one of the best-dressed outfits in the Tidewater area.

At Norfolk, the Suffolk unit will join half a dozen other school and fraternal bands, including the famed Elizabeth City High School organization.

The Oyster Bowl game, as annual affair at Norfolk, features two college elevens for the first time this season.

William and Mary is one of the powerhouses of the Southern Conference, while the Keydets from V. M. I. are an ever-dangerous team, V. M. I. threw a scare into the Indians last year before bowing, 28-20.

German Club elects Vaden president

At a meeting of the Suffolk German Club held Monday night, W. P. Vaden was elected president of the organization.

Other officers elected for the year were: vice-president, Elmer Ehler; secretary-treasurer, M. L. Bowden.

Elected to the executive committee were Paul L. Everett, Dr. J. M. Habel, W. H. Reid and Berry Thompson.

The club made plans for a dinner dance to be held in the latter part of November.

Bryant elected delegate to state convention

Mrs. Floyd Bryant was elected a delegate to attend the State convention of the King's Daughters and Sons to be held in Roanoke during October.

This election took place Monday afternoon at a meeting of the Ministering Circle of the King's Daughters held with Mrs. Herbert N. Tucker on Grace Street.

Mrs. Bryant presided and Mrs. C. C. Rawls led the devotionals.

Her topic was "Love of Our Heavenly Father."

Mrs. Tucker and Mrs. Rawls were appointed a committee to bring in a new slate of officers at the next meeting.

Others present were Mrs. W. H. Eley, Mrs. A. A. Turner, Mrs. M. E. Floyd and Mrs. L. H. Rawls Sr.
