United Way continues its support of Sickle Cell

Published Friday, March 3, 2006

This is in reference to Evelyn Wall’s column in the Suffolk News-Herald Feb. 22.

The Rev. Felton Whitfield mistakenly stated the “the United Way association was once a big contributor to the Sickle Cell Association’s fund, but recently cut it from its program.”

Judy Anderson, executive director, and I, of the United Way’s Suffolk office, wish to correct the statement made by the Rev. Whitfield.

Sickle Cell is a United Way certified agency and continues to receive funds from its’ program. However, funds are consistently needed to meet the increasing needs of Sickle Cell families.

The agency acknowledges and appreciates the on-going pubic support from the community.

E. Faye Ledbetter

United Way, Suffolk
