C.S. Brown Center celebrates 20 years

WINTON - The C.S. Brown Cultural Arts Center and Museum will be celebrating their 20-year anniversary on Saturday, Oct. 21 in Winton.

The campus that houses the Cultural Arts Center and Museum was formerly known as the Waters Normal Institute when it was founded in 1886.

Eventually the school became known as Calvin S. Brown High School, named after the preacher and journalist who founded the school.

The Arts Center and Museum was founded in 1986 to preserve the multiethnic heritage of Northeastern North Carolina.

Dr. Charles Ramsey will be the Master of Ceremonies for the occasion that will feature a book signing by Chowan University's Frank Stephenson, an art display of the work of Chicago's Homer Rouson, a former graduate of C.S. Brown High School, and praise dancing by the Angelic Praise Dancers of Murfreesboro's First Baptist Church.

The Riverview Elementary School Choir will provide music for the affair.

The theme of the anniversary is "The Legacy That Binds Through Performing Arts, History and Music".

The event is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
