Doretha J. Ricks

Doretha J. Ricks, 63, departed this life on Sept. 8.

A native of Suffolk, she was the daughter of Mary Jones and the late Moses Jones. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie R. Ricks.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Lisa Ricks Kirkland (Donovan); mother, Mary Jones; brother, Reverend Anthony Jones (Yvonne); sister, Lucretia Moyler; niece, Lolita Wilkins; grandnephews, Derrick Wilkins and DaRon Parker; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Doretha was a retired Suffolk public school teacher, and a lifelong member of Macedonia A.M.E. Church where she served as Church Clerk, Trustee and Pastor’s Aide. She was also a charter member of the Suffolk Chapter of Las Amigas, Incorporated.

T.E. Cooke-Overton Funeral Home has been entrusted with the service arrangements.

A viewing was held 1-7 p.m. Monday and 7-8 p.m. a memorial service, conducted by Las Amigas, was held at the funeral home chapel.

A funeral was held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12 at Macedonia A.M.E. Church with the Rev. Charles Harvin Sr. officiating. The burial followed at Holly Lawn Cemetery.
